Tamarac staff review preliminary millage, fire and stormwater assessments for FY 2026

TAMARAC, Fla. — City of Tamarac staff presented the fiscal 2026 preliminary millage and related assessment resolutions July 7, including a proposed 7-mill ad valorem rate and preliminary rates for fire rescue, stormwater and solid waste assessments.
Christine, the city's director of financial services, told staff the proposed millage rate is 7 mills, unchanged from the previous year, which Christine said would generate approximately $46.2 million in property tax revenue and add roughly $2.5 million to the budget over last year’s roll. She said the proposed rate exceeds the computed rollback rate by 6.21% and that the rate shown is a “not-to-exceed” preliminary number for public notice purposes.
Christine presented five related items: the preliminary millage (proposed 7 mills); TR 14275 (fire rescue assessment, proposed residential rate $450 per unit, an increase of $30 from FY25, estimated to raise about $17.9 million); TR 14276 (stormwater assessment, proposed $170.89 per equivalent residential unit, a 3% increase under the city’s ordinance); TR 14277 (solid waste assessment, no change, $278.75 per residential unit); and TR 14278 (nuisance abatement assessments for five properties totaling $5,184.82 to be placed on tax rolls where owners did not pay abatement costs).
She outlined the schedule for the statutorily required notices and hearings: preliminary rates and assessments will be submitted to the Broward County property appraiser by Aug. 4; TRIM notices will begin mailing around Aug. 12; the public notice in the Sun Sentinel will run Aug. 14; the first public hearing and tentative millage/budget adoption will be Sept. 12; and the second public hearing and final millage and budget adoption is scheduled for Sept. 24.
Staff said a study of solid waste costs will occur in 2026 following a full year with the city’s new vendor and that the nuisance abatement assessments reflect properties where owners did not exercise the ordinance appeal process. The resolutions and the tentative millage will be brought to the commission for formal action at upcoming public hearings.
