The board reviewed the annual financial assurance report for the closed Kossuth County landfill and accepted the engineer’s finding that the post‑closure care fund balance exceeded the estimated 14‑year cost of monitoring and maintenance.
County staff reported the post‑closure fund balance as $442,254.09 (June 1 snapshot) and noted the balance 30 days after the close of the prior fiscal year was $464,907.79. The engineer’s estimate of post‑closure care for the next 14 years was $450,931, so the available balance exceeded the estimate and no transfer from the transfer station operating fund was required.
The board voted to approve the financial assurance report and authorized the chair to sign the required documentation for the state Department of Natural Resources.
