A Millis resident asked the Select Board on June 30 for support to revive a community day event in September 2026.
Allison Rockwood said she would like to organize a Millis Community Day tied to a back-to-school 5K run and to include local vendors and businesses. Rockwood said she has contacted police and fire and had spoken with recreation staff and with local race organizer Allison Maher to coordinate timing. She said the proposal is early in planning and that she would convene volunteers to form a planning group.
Board members expressed broad support and advised the organizer that the Select Board could either appoint an official committee or the event could proceed as a private volunteer group that coordinates with town staff as needed. Board members recommended keeping the group informal at first to avoid open-meeting posting requirements, then returning to the board with formal requests for road closures, insurance or other town approvals as the event nears. The board asked Rockwood to return with a proposed date and a list of approvals needed once planning advances.
No formal board action was required or taken. Town staff said they will provide contacts and guidance on permitting, police/fire coordination, and downtown logistics when the group requests them.
