Cherokee County commissioners approve routine contracts, adopt Wildcat plan and schedule hearings on major rezoning

Cherokee County commissioners met July 1 in Canton and approved a range of routine and programmatic matters, including contract awards and budget items, while adopting a long-range Wildcat area plan and scheduling further hearings on contested rezoning applications.

The unanimous business vote cleared the consent agenda and separate county-manager items covering transportation contracts, IT infrastructure replacement, engineering on-call agreements and emergency repairs. Commissioners also adopted the Wildcat area plan and approved a construction contract to replace a storm pipe on North Creek Drive, which county staff said must be completed before resurfacing work.

The approvals included a short-term operations arrangement with Katz Transportation/CAATS to act as interim prime contractor for Region 1 transportation services for three months, a FY2026 Department of Human Services (DHS) 5310 operating contract for paratransit services, and a $329,547 contract to replace the HVAC system and a five-year service agreement for the county IT data room.
