Spring ISD board approves Wenchi High School decoupling to change state reporting and add seats

The Spring Independent School District Board of Trustees voted June 30 to approve a plan to decouple Wenchi High School’s state reporting identification, a technical change the district says will restore earlier state reporting, allow the district to add seats to the school over time and help reduce a long waiting list.

District staff said the change affects only how student data are reported to the state and will not alter student enrollment processes, daily instruction or Wenchi’s status as a school of choice. "Decoupling in education reporting refers to the process of separating a school from its unique state reporting ID," said Dr. Matthew Paris, district staff presenting the plan. "It does not impact the students' daily experience, the enrollment process, or access to the programs."

Why it matters: The district said the change is intended to increase access to Wenchi’s specialized Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways and to reduce long waiting lists. According to the presentation, the campus has operated at about 70 percent capacity and the decoupling would permit roughly 150 additional seats across four years (about 35–36 seats per year), enabling more students to access under-enrolled CTE programs while preserving Wenchi’s lottery entry process and graduation traditions.
