The Board of County Commissioners approved a rezoning request on Squarestone Street that changes the subject lot to Agricultural Residential-2 (AR-2), which allows mobile homes and site-built housing.
Planning staff explained the AR-2 designation is limited to certain blocks in the Ridge Manor area where staff found AR-2 to be compatible with existing development patterns. Francisco Chacon, the petitioner, said he wanted to place a mobile home on the lot for his mother. Commissioners discussed whether allowing AR-2 in a block otherwise composed of R-1C lots would set a new precedent and examined aerial imagery showing a mix of site-built homes and mobile homes in nearby blocks.
Commissioners divided on the desirability of AR-2 in this location but voted to approve the rezoning; the final tally on the motion was 3-1. Commissioners asked staff to treat subsequent requests in the area on a case-by-case basis.
