Resident urges permanent barrier, speed cameras after repeated crashes near North Spruce and West Beverly

William Moreno, a District 4 resident, told the Montebello Traffic and Safety Commission on June 30 that frequent crashes at the left‑turn from westbound Beverly onto North Spruce have become a recurring safety and quality‑of‑life problem for neighbors.
"Those accidents on that corner are constant. It's at least every other week," Moreno said during public comment. He described at least one personal collision and said many crashes go unreported when they cause no injury. Moreno asked the city to install a permanent barrier — "probably landscaped" — along the West Beverly curb to stop drivers from making left turns at the location, and he urged speed‑control measures on nearby Montebello Boulevard, including permanent cameras.
Staff told Moreno the city had received his email and would assign the issue to traffic staff for analysis and return the item to the commission. A staff member said traffic complaints are reviewed, analyzed and then placed on the commission agenda as needed.
Moreno also said he had heard of plans to redo Montebello Boulevard and asked for notice to nearby residents; staff and project representatives later described outreach plans for the Montebello grade‑separation work and said door‑to‑door notifications and public meetings were planned.
The commission did not take formal action on the public comment; staff confirmed the complaint is in the city system and will be investigated for traffic analysis and potential traffic‑control recommendations.
