The McCall City Council approved a sixth extension of the city’s civil legal services agreement with White Peterson, Gingrich & Nichols PA and authorized the mayor to sign the updated contract that increases the monthly retainer to 60 hours.
City clerk Bessie Jo Wagner summarized staff review and supported the extension. She said staff examined retainer hours used in FY25 and recommended increasing the monthly retainer so the city remains in retainer and benefits from the discounted effective hourly rate under the contract.
A representative from White Peterson told council the firm values the relationship and that the retainer structure yields a lower effective hourly rate for the city compared with out‑of‑retainer billing. “When you're in retainer…we're actually at a 40% discount on my normal hourly rate,” the representative said.
Council approved the extension by roll call vote. Staff placed the new retainer and updated hourly rates in the FY26 proposed budget.
