Council grants three-year extension for Van Buren self-storage site development permit

The Jurupa Valley City Council on June 26 approved a three-year extension of time for Site Development Permit (SDP) 23008, allowing the applicant additional time to complete building and grading permit reviews for a proposed 98,157-square-foot gated mini-storage facility on about 4.73 acres east of Van Buren Boulevard north of Clay Street.
Oscar Estrada, associate planner, summarized the project history and explained that the original SDP had an expiration date of May 4, 2025. The applicant requested an extension to May 4, 2028. Staff found the requested extension consistent with the Municipal Code and the previously adopted environmental determination and recommended approval.
Applicant Terry Dickeroff told the council the plan had moved through multiple plan-check reviews and that the outstanding changes were predominantly minor engineering and landscaping adjustments; he said, "We're about 75% through all of the conditions." Dickeroff also cited financing and market conditions as reasons for the extension request.
Action taken: The council adopted the resolution approving the three-year extension and establishing a new expiration date of May 4, 2028. The motion passed unanimously.
Ending: The applicant may proceed with remaining building and grading plan checks and permit actions; staff will continue to monitor permit compliance and plan-check conditions.
