The Cass County Board of Commissioners voted Tuesday to approve a temporary closure of Cass County Highway 28 to accommodate the upcoming River Valley Fair. Sheriff Johnner asked the board to set the closure to begin the evening of July 3 because the fair opens July 4.
Sheriff Johnner said the closure was a small operational item tied to fair preparation and apologized that it had "slipped through the cracks" of the agenda. "We're looking to close Cass Highway 28, and, actually, when I was speaking with him last night, he preferred that we maybe start the evening of July 3 because the fair starts July 4," Johnner said.
A motion to close the road was made and seconded; the board took a roll-call vote with five commissioners voting in favor. Commissioners directed staff to post notice and coordinate traffic control and signage with county road crews and fair organizers.
The closure was approved by a unanimous roll-call vote. The commission adjourned following the vote.
