The Los Angeles City Council on Feb. 2 approved a motion to coordinate the city's policy response to the South Coast Air Quality Management District's proposed fleet rule and related local initiatives.
Councilmember Ridley-Thomas introduced item 23, saying the city has several disparate policy initiatives under way and that the motion aims to ensure a coherent, comprehensive and progressive municipal approach to improving air quality and vehicle-fleet emissions.
"Now is the opportunity to develop comprehensive policy that could set a new standard, for not only the city, the state, but even the nation," Ridley-Thomas said. The council voted 13-0 to approve the item.
The motion requests coordination among council motions and city departments to produce a unified policy stance and to move relevant agenda items forward with expediency; the council recorded the item as approved without further amendments during the meeting.
