The Tulsa City Council on Wednesday approved an emergency ordinance creating temporary curfew hours for minors in parts of downtown Tulsa after more than an hour of public comment and extended council discussion.
The ordinance, recorded as agenda item 6a, was amended before passage to apply from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and to include a sunset review on Oct. 22, 2025. Councilors also added an emergency clause that allows the measure to take effect immediately if the mayor signs it.
Supporters, including downtown business owners and the Downtown Tulsa Partnership, told the council the measure is a temporary pilot designed to reduce large late-night gatherings they say have contributed to violence, property damage and lost revenue. “A $200 fine is a heck of a lot better than another dead kid in the streets,” said Casey Bradford, who urged councilors to give police the ability to enforce curfew laws.
