Planning commission recommends abandonment of roadway easement along Airport Road to Board of Supervisors

The Carson City Planning Commission on June 25 voted to recommend that the Board of Supervisors approve the abandonment of approximately 28,102 square feet of roadway easement and public right-of-way along the west side of Airport Road adjacent to 899 North Lompa Lane (APN 1074104), subject to six staff conditions intended to protect utility access and storm drainage.
Heather Farris, senior planner, said the easement and right-of-way remnants are no longer necessary after the realignment of Airport Road and identified discrete areas on the exhibits for transfer and dedication. “The roadway easement is shown here in green … a portion of the roadway easement overlaps with Airport Road. This portion will be offered for dedication to Carson City through a deed of dedication to be recorded prior to or concurrently with this abandonment,” she said.
Farris and staff highlighted conditions requiring establishment of easements to protect Southwest Gas infrastructure and storm drain outfall, a required lot line adjustment (to be recorded prior to abandonment or a revision to the legal description), and dedication of a strip of right-of-way for Airport Road prior to or concurrent with the abandonment. Stacy Huggins of Wood Rogers, representing the applicant CC Nevada LLC, confirmed acceptance of the six conditions.
Commissioners characterized the item as a cleanup of legacy easements created before the Airport Road realignment. Commissioner Krone moved to recommend approval to the Board of Supervisors; Commissioner Brooks seconded. The motion carried by voice vote.
If approved by the Board of Supervisors, the indicated abandonment areas would be absorbed into the adjacent parcel on the west side of Airport Road after required deeds and lot-line work are completed.
