Resident urges Elbert County to enforce metro-district road maintenance after months-long pothole delay

At the Elbert County Board of Commissioners meeting a resident asked the county to assist in enforcing maintenance obligations of the Elbert and Highway 86 Commercial Metro District after large potholes near the Murphy gas station remained unrepaired for more than two months.

Brad Ike of 1110 Legacy Trail, Elizabeth, described repeated attempts to get the commercial metro district and its manager (Clifford Lawson Allen) to repair the potholes, saying he was told repairs were scheduled for July 2 but the holes remained. "These are large potholes... they are 2 and a half months after the request," Ike said, describing frustration that commercial metro district board members are primarily developer representatives who do not live in Elbert County.

Monty Hankins, Elbert County Public Works Director, told the board Public Works had received several calls and made multiple attempts to contact the metro district and the original developer but had not obtained a response. "We have had no success either… we've made at least 5 phone calls to the metro district to try to get some response out of them and we get nothing," Hankins said.

Commissioners and staff agreed to pursue options. Chair McDaniel suggested a meeting with county management, the county attorney and Public Works before the end of the week to determine possible enforcement steps. Hankins offered to contact the original developer to ask that developer to apply pressure to the metro district.
