Board orders Glenbrook Drive path reconstruction, approves maintenance for Jackson Drive path

The Village of Jackson Board of Public Works on June 24 approved reconstruction of the Glenbrook Drive path by Poblocki Paving for approximately $88,000 and approved a maintenance contract for the Jackson Drive path with Johnson & Sons for $7,300. The board also directed staff to pursue additional maintenance quotes for other village paths to extend service life.

Staff told the board the 2025 budget included $125,000 for Jackson Drive path work and the proposed financial master plan allotted $140,000 for Glenbrook Drive. After site inspections with contractors and village staff, staff recommended complete reconstruction of the Glenbrook Drive path and targeted maintenance of the Jackson Drive path (routing, filling wider cracks, and two-layer seal coat). Staff said the Jackson Drive maintenance could buy approximately five years of service depending on winter conditions and frost heave.

Board members discussed whether to postpone reconstruction pending a full pavement-rating study to be completed later in the year and whether concrete sidewalks vs. asphalt paths would be more appropriate. Staff said a full pavement-rating study of village streets will be done this year and the master plan will be revisited in the fall; Glenbrook may not be on the five-year radar for road reconstruction but the path itself was judged to be in worse condition than Jackson Drive.

The motion to reconstruct the Glenbrook Drive path and to contract maintenance for Jackson Drive passed by voice vote on a motion by Engelhardt with a second by Kripke. The board additionally asked staff to obtain quotes to maintain other path segments and report back in roughly two months.
