The McCreary County Board of Education convened a special meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the district central office and entered executive session under Kentucky Revised Statutes KRS 61.810(1)(f) to discuss a personnel matter that could lead to appointment, discipline or dismissal.
After returning to open session, the board voted to authorize the board chair and the board attorney to enter contract negotiations with Clint Taylor to be named the next superintendent of McCreary County Schools. The board also made a motion and voted to name Taylor superintendent; the board chair said the contract will be presented at the board's next meeting on June 24, 2025.
The executive-session authority cited, KRS 61.810(1)(f), allows governing bodies to meet privately to consider personnel matters where publicity might affect the outcome. Board members recorded "aye" votes during roll call on the motions to return to open session and on the motions related to Taylor's appointment and the negotiation authorization.
Board procedure on the contract itself will resume at the June 24 meeting when the proposed agreement is presented for consideration and formal ratification. There was little public deliberation recorded on the substance of the contract during Tuesday's meeting; the recorded remarks in the transcript were primarily procedural and voting confirmations.
The board did not specify additional details about the proposed contract terms, the start date, salary, or other employment conditions during the June 17 meeting; those items are scheduled to be presented at the June 24 meeting for further action.
