Downtown Commission reviews one-year check-in on staff-approved applications list

City planning staff presented the Downtown Commission with a one-year check-in on the list of application types that staff may approve administratively without full commission review. The list is shared with neighboring review bodies, including the East Franklinton review board and the University Impact District review board.
Staff said the list provides consistent language across review boards but allows discretion: items with high design impact, such as sculptural parking-facility treatments or other prominent elements, would still be brought before the commission. "If it is a big impact item, then we bring it," a planning manager said, explaining the staff approval process and the internal review steps that trigger commission review.
Commissioners asked about coordination with the Historic Resources Commission; staff confirmed HRC meets the Thursday before the Downtown Commission and that many downtown HRC approvals still come to the Downtown Commission for additional review and context. Commissioners had no objections to the current staff-approved list and accepted the annual check-in. Staff said they would email the list to commissioners and continue annual reviews.
The commission then approved the staff-approved applications record by motion.
