Activities director highlights state events, scoreboard updates and student athlete leadership team

DeBoer said three teams placed at state events this year — girls tennis (fifth), boys tennis (fourth) and boys basketball (sixth) — and noted several individual achievements. He described the state B tournament hosted at the Huron Arena as a community showcase and praised event staff, custodial crews and volunteers. "A big highlight for me and for our community this year was the state B tournament here at the arena, [which] gave us a chance to showcase our community," DeBoer said.
DeBoer reported scoreboard updates at Tiger Stadium are underway and expected to be operational this fall, and that the district will host additional state events next school year including a state cross-country meet at Broadland Creek Golf Course on Oct. 26. He listed several events that will tie into the state fair week and noted homecoming football versus Spearfish on Sept. 26.
DeBoer also described a newly formed student athlete leadership team of seven students drawn from recommendations across 17 of 19 varsity sports. The students developed a set of unifying principles they proposed for athletes and coaches: competitive; relationship-driven; composed; grateful; role model.
