Sparks council unanimously moves Parks and Recreation commissioner start date to June 25

The Sparks City Council on Wednesday unanimously approved changing the start date of Parks and Recreation Commissioner Tracy Gale's term from July 1, 2025, to June 25, 2025.

City Manager Louthan told the council the original appointment set Gale's term to begin July 1 but that a regional meeting among the three jurisdictions was scheduled for June 25 and the jurisdictions requested Gale sit on the commission for that meeting. "We need to move her appointment date to June 25, which is today," Louthan said.

The motion to modify the start date was made by Councilmember Bybee and seconded by Councilmember Vanderwell. Mayor Pro Tem Anderson presided at the special meeting; Mayor Lawson was absent. The council signaled its approval by voice vote, with members saying "aye," and the motion passed unanimously.

The change was taken during a short special meeting called June 25. The council approved the meeting agenda at the start of the session and held two public comment opportunities; the clerk reported there were no speakers for public comment. After the appointment start-date modification, the council adjourned.

The council did not provide additional details about the regional meeting beyond Louthan's statement that it involved all three jurisdictions. The original appointment of Gale and the July 1 start date were made at the council's prior meeting, the city manager said.
