Superintendent reports construction progress; North Brandywine middle school zoning moves forward

District leadership reported construction and facilities updates at the Coatesville Area School Board meeting June 24, telling board members that major site work and interior construction are continuing and that a zoning hearing cleared the way to move forward with planning for a new North Brandywine Middle School.
Superintendent’s staff said 26 trailers once parked at the Kings Highway site had been used only for storage; 23 of those trailers have been removed and three will remain as work trailers for the renovation and addition project. Staff described ongoing interior work at North Brandywine (drywall, ceramic tile installation, low-voltage rough-ins, mechanical and fire-alarm rough-ins and wiring) and near-completion exterior work at Reesville Elementary. The district said interior-design selections for Dough Run Elementary and additional finishing decisions at North Brandywine are scheduled.
Board members and staff also noted the Scott Middle School roof project required a change order for roof duct curbs and HVAC roof units, and the board approved that change order during the meeting for $182,319.94. The board likewise approved a $165,000 contract for electrical work on the senior high-school natatorium and a professional-services agreement with Cowen Township for sidewalk repairs at Reesville Elementary; district staff said the Cowen contract repeats terms of a previously approved fee agreement to avoid delays.
One board member asked whether the natatorium contract specifications addressed liability for potential liner damage during work that requires lifts; staff said those protections were included in the contract specifications. Staff also noted that, when visiting the Kings Highway site, the cornfield and available space behind the area underscored the scope of the planned addition.

The board’s next committee meetings are scheduled for July 8 and the next regular meeting for July 22, both at the Learning Center.
