Board Assistant Chief Robert Hardy, speaking for the Miami Fire Rescue Department, told the board that Coutee missed about six weeks of her probationary period for a personal matter and the department seeks up to an additional six months "to continue to evaluate her performance." Gabrielle Coutee confirmed she agreed to the extension, saying, "Yes. I agree."
Board members moved and seconded the motion (motion by board member Jimenez; second by board member Soleiman) and approved the extension by voice vote. The board did not record individual roll-call tallies in the transcript; the motion was approved on an affirmative voice vote.
The extension was presented as a personnel-management action requested by Chief Robert Hevia, director of the Fire Rescue Department, in a memorandum to the board. The board did not discuss further conditions tied to the extension during the public portion of the meeting.
