The Hurst City Council continued a public hearing and associated legal action regarding alleged substandard improvements at 916 Zelda Drive and set the matter for the councils July 8 meeting, council members said.
City building official Tanya Wilson told the council staff had received incomplete plans and a remodel permit from property owner Monica Chavez but had not received contractor registration or contractor identification information required for permit issuance. Chavez addressed the council, said she had engaged engineers and contractors, and apologized for misunderstandings about permit status and timing.
Councilmembers discussed concerns that unpermitted work had exposed areas where inspections for framing, plumbing and electrical were required. Several council members urged the owner to maintain direct, ongoing communication with building officials so staff could confirm progress. Councilmember Matthew (identified in the record by first name only) moved to continue the case and associated public hearing to the councils July 8 meeting; a second was recorded. The motion carried; one councilmember voiced opposition.
Council members and staff warned that if required documentation and satisfactory progress were not provided, the council would consider demolition at a future meeting and would file the necessary orders and liens as allowed. Tanya Wilson and other staff said they had tried an accommodating approach and would continue to work with the owner; the council asked Ms. Chavez to keep timely communications with staff to resolve outstanding permit and contractor registration requirements.
