The Edmond City Council on June 23 voted 5-0 to approve Ordinance No. 4045, rezoning roughly 63 acres near Sorghum Mill Road and Coltrane Road from GA (General Agriculture) to a single-family dwelling district.
Planning staff explained the site is southwest of Sorghum Mill and west of Coltrane. Surrounding zoning includes large-lot rural districts, an undeveloped suburban office area to the east and the Black Oak at Iron Horse Ranch subdivision to the west; the Liberty Park PUD lies to the south. The city’s Edmond Plan 2018 characterizes the area as suburban to neighborhood, and staff said single-family zoning is consistent with that designation provided public water and sewer are supplied.
The applicant, Megan Pascoe with Tanner Consulting LLC, said the developer intends to plat the area with roughly half‑acre lots and connect the first phase to the adjacent Black Oak subdivision. At the Planning Commission hearing on June 3 the commission recommended approval 5-0.
Councilmembers urged the applicant to host a community meeting and said staff should coordinate outreach to adjacent neighborhoods, noting specific concern about the southwest corner of the property where existing neighborhood common areas abut the site. The council approved the rezoning without recorded opposition.
No specific subdivision plat or development plan was adopted at the hearing; the rezoning allows single-family detached dwellings in accordance with the city’s zoning code and identified lot-size minimums.
