Weston County adopts conflict-of-interest form for employees, elected officials and appointed county boards

The Weston County Board of Commissioners voted to adopt a conflict-of-interest disclosure form to be completed by county employees, elected officials and by boards appointed by the Weston County Board of Commissioners.
Under the motion, disclosures must be returned by January 1 and August 1 each year or within 30 days of appointment. The board added that the certificate is valid for one year and asked the county clerk’s office to track returns and maintain a chart of submissions. Commissioners discussed whether the form should apply to all county-affiliated boards or only those receiving county funding; the motion as adopted applies to employees, elected officials and county boards appointed by the board of commissioners. One commissioner suggested the form include a space for an appointee to describe how they will avoid a reported conflict (for example, by refraining from related votes); commissioners agreed to include that approach in guidance and to request clearer descriptions when a disclosure is vague.
The board moved, seconded and approved the motion by voice vote with no opposing votes announced. The clerk’s office will send the form and collect responses; staff said they will add a checkbox for a refusal to complete the form so the board can track noncompliance.
