Art Center of Kershaw County reports facility upgrades, executive director announces retirement

Dolly Patton, executive director of the Art Center of Kershaw County, presented the center's year-end report to Kershaw County Council Tuesday, highlighting a year of facility renovations, a 50th-anniversary season and expanded arts-education programs.
Patton described renovations funded in part by county support and state grants that made restrooms ADA compliant, replaced 44 leaking windows and upgraded the Daniels Education Building ramp and doors. "Thanks to your support ' that building was built in 1983. There were no ADA rules back then. We were able to renovate our bathrooms," Patton told the council.
Programming highlights included restored youth theater (York Street Players), a sold-out run of Hairspray the Musical and an education program called Arts Arising that partners with Kershaw County School District. Patton said the Arts Arising program is supported by public and private grants and provided almost $90,000 in programming that keeps student costs low.
In closing Patton told council she will retire at the end of the month after four years as executive director. Council members thanked her for her work and praised the center's role in county arts and education.
