Kershaw County honors EMS for 10 years of county-run service

Kershaw County Council on Tuesday adopted Resolution No. 6.2025 commemorating the 10th anniversary of county-operated Emergency Medical Services. The resolution records the transfer of EMS from Kershaw Health Hospital to the county on June 20, 2015, and recognizes growth in staffing and call volume.
The resolution notes Kershaw County EMS expanded from three 24-hour ambulances and 24 full-time members in 2015 to five 24-hour ambulances and 52 full-time team members, and that responses rose from approximately 8,000 calls in 2015 to an estimated 12,000 calls in 2025.
Deputy Administrator Gerald Blanchard and current EMS leaders asked the council to recognize the staff's contributions. "We made the promise that we wouldn't let the county down and we won't do that now," Gerald Blanchard said, recalling the transition from hospital control.
Several council members praised EMS for steady growth and consistent community service. "We have the best EMS service care here in the state of South Carolina in all 46 counties," Councilman Jared Tucker said.
The council voted to adopt the resolution; the vote passed unanimously by those present.
