Sam (Fire Department staff) and city finance staff provided updates; no formal vote was taken at the meeting, and an amendment is slated to appear in an ordinance packet at the regular meeting next week.
Sam said the truck's delivery date has been pushed back multiple times, initially expected in the fall of last year and most recently projected for July 16. "If it's gonna be after July, I just don't know when," Sam said. Officials attributed some delays to hurricanes that affected the factory's start date and to longer build times across the industry.
City finance staff reported that the delayed delivery did not change the estimated ending cash balance as of June 30, 2026, but it increased estimated expenditures for the current year by $747,000. That change reduced the city—s expenditures-to-fund-balance percentage from the goal of 25% to 23.9%, the finance staff said. The staff also reported an operating deficit of $276,533 and stated a longer-term "true deficit" figure for next fiscal year as given in the meeting record.
Board members discussed options if the truck is not delivered before next June, including cancelling the order or reordering with a firm delivery date. Marty (Fire Department staff) said department personnel plan to perform final inspections before delivery: "We'll go down before delivery, do a final inspection, and then make any repairs or whatever." Equipment for the truck is currently in the city—s possession and will be installed when the vehicle arrives, officials said.
No formal action was taken at the special call meeting. A city representative noted the ordinance packet prepared for next week already includes the budget amendment reflecting the delayed delivery; if delivery is not confirmed by then, staff said they would return with a cancellation or further recommendation.
Officials stressed the uncertainty around the manufacturer—s schedule. "There's been a lot of delays," Sam said. "It just keeps getting longer and longer for these build times for the trucks." The board did not adopt any changes at the special call meeting and left the item for the upcoming regular meeting.
