The Porterville City Council reported a series of formal actions taken in closed session and at public hearing during its June 17 meeting, including two liability-claim decisions, adoption of a provisional interim budget for the first quarter of fiscal year 2025–26 and acceptance of the city’s public-health water report.
Council members announced two closed-session claim outcomes at the reconvened open session. On the claim of Ruth Gail Paredes the council voted to deny the claim on a motion by Mayor Meister, seconded by Council Member Greene; the vote was 5–0. On the claim submitted by Myers Funeral Service (Jason Wise) the council voted to accept the claim on a motion by Mayor Meister, seconded by Council Member Rivas; the vote was 5–0.
During the meeting the council also: - Adopted a provisional interim city budget to continue the 2024–25 budget through the first quarter of FY 2025–26 (July 1–Sept. 30, 2025). The assembly followed staff recommendation and the motion passed 5–0 after a public hearing. - Conducted the required public hearing under AB 2561 on city job vacancies and received the staff report; council approved staff recommendations (vote 5–0). - Received and accepted the city’s 2025 public health goal report on drinking water quality and related monitoring (vote 5–0). Staff said the Porterville water system remains in full compliance with state and federal standards while noting detections of certain constituents below regulatory action levels. - Approved an ordinance designating moderate fire hazard severity zones in the Local Responsibility Area as mapped by the State Fire Marshal and waived further readings (vote 5–0). - Adopted the consent calendar items 1–14 in a single motion (vote 5–0).
Votes and motions were read into the meeting record and appear in the minutes. Several items on the agenda were scheduled matters that will return to council for further action, and staff were directed to prepare follow-up materials where appropriate.
