Board members asked staff and legal counsel to confirm the source of specific model-language citations. The board also discussed whether RIF language should explicitly state that the board must approve any reduction in force; staff representatives said they would add language to clarify the board's role and circulate revised text for consideration at the next board meeting.
Separately, the board approved a motion to extend the time for the policy review committee to continue working on classified board personnel policy revisions and to return a revised document to the board at a future date. The extension motion was moved, seconded and carried by voice vote.
Committee leaders said the proposed certified personnel revisions align with state and federal laws and with model guidance from the Arkansas School Boards Association, but that some language was adopted from ASBA model policies and may need further review after legislative changes. The committee emphasized its intention for the revisions to reflect LRSD's operational needs and suggested periodic review given recent and anticipated state policy changes.
