The Canton City Council appointed Victoria Anderson as the resident member of the Housing and Redevelopment board, a position HUD requires to represent public housing tenants and voucher holders.
Ken Van Bockren, executive director of the housing board, told the council that HUD requires a resident board member to represent tenants at Colonial Village and voucher recipients. Van Bockren said the housing agency circulated a sign-up for roughly six months and Anderson was the only person to volunteer; he described her as qualified for the role. He asked the council to appoint Anderson and to work with the housing agency to define a clearer appointment process for the future.
Council members voted to appoint Anderson on the record. Staff said they will also engage the council and housing agency in drafting written guidance or a handbook to clarify appointment procedures for future resident members.
