Brandon Valley board hears safety-committee update, approves personnel items and notes no election after two petitions filed

The Board of Education heard a safety-committee report, approved personnel items, and was informed that no school-board election will be held after two candidates filed petitions.

A board member reported the safety committee met May 28 and reviewed school-resource-officer (SRO) activity for the year. The committee reported SRO responses were 'on par or better' in several categories compared with the previous year, the board member said. The committee recommended updating emergency-language to align with the Sioux Falls Police Department and the Brandon Police Department so responding agencies use consistent terminology for incidents; the report also noted discussion of public-safety communications, construction-site safety at remodel locations and possible crosswalk locations near schools.

Superintendent Larsen told the board that petitions for two board seats were due May 9 and that two petitions were filed, so there will be no board election for those seats; the transcript recorded the petitioners as David Bell and Renalem. The board voted to approve personnel items 1 through 11 as presented; items 12 through 15 were listed as information only for the board's review.
