Shawnee County employees donate $15,779.70 to three local charities

County staff raised $15,779.70 across three workplace campaigns this month and presented checks to United Way, Helping Hands Humane Society and Project Topeka during the Dec. 16 work session.
Amanda Monholland of the Shawnee County Commission Office presented checks from employee workplace campaigns during the Board of County Commissioners work session on Dec. 16.
Monholland said the county’s workplace campaign raised $5,939 for United Way. Earlier this month the county presented $6,706 to Helping Hands Humane Society and $3,134.70 to Project Topeka, bringing the total across the three workplace campaigns to $15,779.70.
An United Way representative who identified herself as Angel spoke at the meeting and thanked county staff for their donation and for supporting partner organizations that address long-term community needs such as food security, housing and health care. "These dollars really come at a time that's so important," Angel said, noting rising costs for groceries, housing and health care.
County Chair Kevin Cook and other commissioners thanked the fundraising committee and county employees. Monholland provided a breakdown of the three campaign totals when commissioners asked for the combined figure.
No formal action or vote was taken; the presentations were part of the meeting’s administrative communications.
