Commission endorses county Emergency Operations Plan and appoints Everbridge administrator for region

Geary County commissioners endorsed the county Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) and approved associated signatures; the board also acknowledged a county staff member’s appointment as an administrator for the regional Everbridge emergency notification system.
Gary Burgess, director of Geary County Emergency Management, briefed the commission on emergency management items including the EOP signature request and local training. Burgess said the county met the damage threshold for a January storm and that Everbridge administration duties were assigned to a county staff member who will participate in monthly policy meetings for the Northeast Homeland Security Council.
Commissioners moved and seconded to endorse the EOP and record the county’s role in regional notification governance; the motion carried by voice vote. Burgess and staff will gather signatures and follow up with the city and school district on joint meeting outreach where Everbridge and EOP coordination can be presented.
