Coach Matt Coe honored as 'Hidden Hero'; two schools recognized as 2024 Title I reward schools

The Coffee County Board of Education honored Coach Matt Coe as the district's "Hidden Hero" and presented Title I Reward School designations to two campuses during the Feb. 27 meeting.

Superintendent and staff members described Coe's actions after the hurricane, saying he and his teams organized relief efforts, delivered supplies to rural areas, housed and fed students, and supported athletes and families beyond typical coaching duties. In a prepared nomination read into the record, staff described Coe as serving “as a father figure, a mentor, and friend” who organized community support and modeled commitment, respect, attitude, willingness and love (C.R.O.P.).

Separately, the district presented Title I Reward School certificates to Tina Sapp of Brockston Mary Hayes Elementary School and Pam Smith of Wiregrass Regional College and Career Academy. District staff said the Title I reward designation recognizes schools in the top 5 percent of Title I schools statewide for improvement across two years of Georgia Milestones achievement data; 88 Georgia schools received the 2024 reward recognition. The board and administrators credited faculty and staff for sustained teaching and learning that produced the improvement.

Board members thanked staff and community partners for their roles in student recovery, school improvement and community support.
