The Washington County School District Board of Education on Feb. 13 approved administrative appointments for two schools: Jenny Levitt as principal of Red Mountain Elementary and Darren Thomas as principal of Hurricane High School.
Rex Wilkie, who presented the Red Mountain candidate pool to the board, said the district reviewed four candidates and recommended Jenny Levitt, currently a staff developer at Three Falls Elementary. The board approved the appointment on a motion by Member Hutchison and a second by Member Blake; the motion carried by voice vote.
For Hurricane High School, the district interviewed three candidates and recommended Darren Thomas. The board approved Thomas’s placement by voice vote after a motion by Member Blake and a second by Member Segg Miller.
A board member noted that the district maintains a pool of assistant principals and principals that undergoes an application and interview process each year; board members participate in interviews for schools within their areas. That board member said the district revised its selection process about a year to 18 months earlier and that it has smoothed implementation since the change.
Members and staff congratulated the appointees. The board recorded the approvals during its regular meeting; individual roll-call tallies were not read into the transcript.
