Committee places six higher-education items on consent calendar; two bills moved by roll call

- Senate Bill 5 (Roberta Willis scholarship timing/eligibility) — added to consent calendar. - Senate Bill 1261 (expansion of Alliance District Educator and Counselors Loan Subsidy Program and the High Priority Occupation Loan Subsidy Program; LCO referenced as 5620) — sponsors said the program has underused funding and the amendment includes employees of CTE/Vo-Tech schools in Alliance districts. - House Bill 6075 (instructors for an airframe and power plant certificate program) — proponent confirmed the FAA is the governing authority for the certificate; committee added to consent calendar. - An act implementing the recommendations of the Office of Higher Education (LCO 5548) — mostly technical updates and changes to private career school authorizations and closing procedures. - House Bill 6884 (expand tax credits for student loan payments to include pass-through entities; LCO 5550) — moved to finance with an accompanying referral per committee motion. - LCO 5578 (higher-education management and fiscal-accountability package) — added to consent calendar after debate.
Two other items were advanced with roll-call votes and the chair said the votes would be held open until 5:30 p.m. to allow remote members to cast votes: SB 1250 (LCO 5544) and SB 1260. Committee leadership said roll-call tallies would be finalized when votes closed.
The committee announced upcoming hearings and asked members to hold open dates for possible additional meetings. The consent-calendar vote was read by the clerk at the end of the session and held open until 5:30 p.m.
