Summary
A board member proposed that school board members meet on a rotating basis with board leadership to help set meeting agendas; trustees discussed scheduling and logistics but took no formal vote.
An unnamed board member proposed that members meet on a rotating basis with board leadership to help formulate agendas a week before each regular meeting, saying the practice would give trustees a direct voice in agenda setting.
The proposal came during the Washington County School District board’s Jan. 27, 2025 open session. The proposer said the rotation would include “the board leadership, Lorraine, myself,” and suggested staff (Keijuan) set up a schedule so members could meet by Zoom or in person.
Board members discussed logistics for the rotation — who would go first, whether meetings should be held in the off week, and preferred meeting times. The board discussed doing the preparatory meeting a week before the regular board meeting, with a rotating roster that would initially list Craig first, then Burke, and continue alphabetically or by a schedule set by staff.
Kaysha (staff) was asked to confirm whether the preparatory meeting time should be the Monday before the board meeting or the Friday prior; board members said Zoom would be an option if they could not attend in person. No formal motion or vote was recorded on the proposal during the session.
The discussion included a brief exchange about preferred meeting times; some trustees said earlier in the morning (8–9 a.m.) would work better for those with daytime obligations. The board did not set a final calendar during the meeting and directed staff to circulate a proposed schedule.
Board members indicated willingness to participate in the rotation but did not take formal action; the plan will be scheduled and communicated by staff.
