Torrance City holds workshop on land-use and safety element updates, seeks public feedback

A staff member for Torrance City said the meeting was a workshop to gather public feedback on updates to the city’s land use and safety elements and to further align the general plan with the city’s 2022 housing element.

City staff said the updates are intended to ensure compliance with state law and to incorporate environmental justice goals and policies addressing equitable food access, pollution and exposure, and recreation facilities. "We're actually conducting a workshop related to our land use and safety element updates," the staff member said.

Staff described an interactive exercise in which participants place dots to prioritize which land-use, safety and environmental justice issues matter most to them. "We have several boards that list various topics for the land use, safety, and environmental justice. And for this interactive exercise, they'll be placing dots, prioritizing which issues are most important to them," the staff member said.

The staff member invited people who could not attend in person to participate online through the Community Development Department website or by emailing cddinfo@torranceca.gov. "If you're not able to attend any of these events, we do look forward to your participation online through our community development website. Also, through our email address at cddinfo@torranceca.gov," the staff member said.

No formal decisions or votes were recorded during the workshop. Staff said the purpose of the session was to collect public feedback that will inform subsequent drafts of the general plan updates. The city did not specify a schedule for formal adoption hearings or final deadlines during the remarks recorded in the meeting.
