The Boulder Arts Commission on Feb. 26 approved a project change request from Dairy Arts Center and Creative Nations to extend a grant-funded project after staff changes forced the partners to cancel a planned gallery event.
Why it matters: The approved change allows the organizations to complete additional workshops in the same “sacred space” rather than proceed with the originally planned gallery event, preserving the core programming objectives funded by the grant.
Staff described the request as a timeline and scope adjustment necessitated by changes in the organizations’ staffing and artist availability. A staff member explained that the grantee canceled a gallery event because the managing director position turned over and an artist’s availability changed; the organizations instead will hold additional workshops under the same grant scope. A motion to approve the project change was made and seconded and the commission voted unanimously to approve the extension.
The vote was recorded during the grants portion of the meeting. Staff and commissioners asked a few clarifying questions about whether the project would remain indigenous-led given staffing changes; staff noted other program participants continue to carry the project forward and the work remains organized by people the grant had identified.
Staff follow-up: none specified beyond standard reporting requirements for the amended project timeline.
