Council adopts expedited Olympic-era permitting with narrow amendments after neighborhood pushback

The Los Ángeles City Council voted to approve an amended ordinance allowing expedited review and limited exemptions for projects tied to the city’s upcoming Olympic preparations, adopting a series of amendments after extensive public comment and debate.

Councilmembers passed the final package with an 11–1 recorded tally, adopting multiple amendments intended to clarify which projects qualify and to restrict the measure’s application to large-scale permanent construction. The measure, identified on the agenda as item 12 with subparts a–e, drew sustained opposition from neighborhood councils, labor groups and residents who said the proposal was too broad and lacked community input.

Community leaders told the council the motion as drafted would accelerate development and could sidestep existing transparency and public-review safeguards.
