OSR chief to retire; office described outreach after Federico College closure

"My last day with the Bureau will be on May 2," Valverde said, calling his time leading OSR an honor and reviewing the office's origins and mission to help students access quality postsecondary options.
Valverde described outreach following the Federico College cosmetology school closure as an example of OSR's proactive work. OSR obtained student rosters for that closure, held an in-person workshop and a virtual workshop, and provided one-on-one STRF application assistance. Valverde said staff helped at least one student complete and submit a STRF application during a workshop session.
OSR's chart materials showed large spikes in phone calls and e-mails in the weeks after the Federico closure. Valverde said the office has participated in new community events and expanded efforts to bring OSR information to K-12 family events, career fairs and other local outreach opportunities.
Committee members and BPPE leadership thanked Valverde for his service and said they hope to provide overlap time with his successor so that institutional knowledge transfers. No action was taken; staff said they are actively recruiting and plan to provide updates on staffing and succession plans.
