Board members recounted that the sculpture’s patina and biological growth are intentional elements of the artist’s design. At the meeting, staff liaison Chelsea Ashcraft said the artist provided written language explaining the work’s intention, and the county’s graphic designer produced a mock-up of the proposed interpretive sign.
The board reviewed placement plans: the sign would be mounted on an existing wooden post near the PEAK entrance garden where it would face incoming visitors and complement existing signage. Staff estimated the sign manufacture cost at about $280 and overall shipping and installation at roughly $500; the board approved a motion recommending a not-to-exceed budget of $750 to County Council.
Board members said the sign would be installed at ADA height and that staff would submit the funding request to the council; if council approves, staff would order and schedule installation. The board expressed appreciation for the designer’s work and for the artist’s explanation clarifying that the growth on the sculpture is intentional and part of the piece’s concept.
