District hears SchoolWorks demographic study: birthrates down, 9,000 proposed housing units but only about 1,400 projected in six years

Monique Sovall, the district’s chief business officer, introduced Ken Reynolds of SchoolWorks, who presented the district’s new demographic and enrollment study. The study looked at October snapshot enrollment data, birth statistics by mother’s ZIP code, housing development proposals and cohort progression across grades. Reynolds said the district’s sixth-through-12th-grade cohorts are relatively stable, while grades younger than sixth have declined in recent years as birth rates drop.
