Members reported that ecological consultants Robin Drake (Robin Drake Consulting) and Jenny (Prospect Hill) are conducting research for the town's Natural Resources Inventory (NRI) and are scheduled to brief the board on April 22 with preliminary findings.
The board also discussed new and maintained trails on Grand Island, including groomed cross-country routes at the Nike base and Gallogly and a trail connection from Scenic Woods toward the river. Speakers praised town stewardship of trails and the work of groomers and volunteers.
At the meeting, members recapped recent outreach: a presentation on kayak fishing on Grand Island at the Niagara Falls fishing show and a Welcome Center program that had low turnout because of poor weather but that included indoor family activities. The board also discussed the county Environmental Management Council (Erie County EMC) and reported interest from members in representing Grand Island on that regional council; Kristen and others expressed interest in learning more and potentially serving as a representative or visitor.
No formal votes or actions were recorded; members planned to invite the NRI consultants back for an update and to place the zoning-article review on a future agenda.
