Grand Island panel advances Complete Streets effort, highway superintendent to hold lead seat

They identified the Grand Island Boulevard corridor and Staley Road as early priorities because of existing choke points and curb conditions that limit options for adding bike or pedestrian facilities.
The board said the committee will be five members by design, with the highway superintendent holding one seat ex officio (by position rather than by person). Two community members have agreed to participate and another prospective member who is a current highway department candidate was named. The board said Town Highway Superintendent (or the person holding that office) will be the lead town official for the committee and that the committee will coordinate with the Traffic Advisory Board and other advisory groups when projects cross jurisdictions or technical disciplines.
Board members said the Complete Streets effort is intended to strengthen the town's position when requesting state or county changes to road geometry or speed limits, and to align transportation decisions with the town's master plan, LWRP and Greenway trail objectives. No formal appointments were finalized at the meeting; one member said he would continue to act as a resource and that the proposed slate will be presented to the Town Board for confirmation.
No votes were recorded on committee formation during the meeting.
