Fayetteville High parking deck design advances; construction bid schedule set

Design consultants Hite Jackson Associates and Desmond Parking Solutions presented updated schematics for the Fayetteville High School parking deck and outlined the procurement and permitting timeline.
Project specifics and capacity The proposed deck will provide 455 total spaces when complete: 294 staff spaces and a planned 61 student spaces. Designers added 10 accessible parking spaces (five on top level adjacent to student entry; five internal on lower level for staff access via elevator). The plan includes built‑in electrical capacity for two EV charging stations with space and conduit to expand capacity for four additional chargers in the future.
Safety and finishes Consultants said facades will use expanded metal mesh (porous, not mirrored) and a durable, low‑maintenance palette intended to integrate with campus materials. To address pedestrian safety on the student level (a high parapet height plus a vertical gap), the team proposed an angled cable mesh safety infill above the perimeter rail to discourage climbing and reduce fall risk.
Permits, schedule and procurement Construction documents are complete and in city review. The team expected to submit revisions quickly and turn documents to the district contractor Nabholz/NAPOLTZ for bid packaging by March 7. Bids are expected April 4; the district will review bid scopes and produce a GMP presentation for the board in late April. The target remains June for site mobilization and initial earthwork, with a May board checkpoint available if needed. Restroom renovation work at the high school (separate projects) will continue on the same schedule and is expected to be substantially complete before next school year.
Budget and follow‑up The consultants said they do not expect the city or state comments received so far to change the delivery schedule materially. They invited trustees to inspect construction progress on restroom renovations and said they would return with a GMP and recommendation after the bidding period.
Ending District staff said they will provide updated procurement documents and a recommended contract award when bids are opened.
