Bend accessibility advisory committee organizes Sprout Film tabling, Walk and Roll planning and pamphlet draft

Committee members discussed outreach initiatives tied to the group’s approved work plan, including tabling at the Sprout Film Festival, a presence at the Breaking Barriers conference, and preliminary planning for the Walk and Roll event in early May.

The committee identified a small volunteer group to draft a committee pamphlet and to coordinate tabling at Sprout Film Festival showings in April. Committee members agreed Cassandra Kehoe, the City of Bend equity and accessibility manager, will produce a first draft of the pamphlet for committee feedback; Cassandra told members, "I'll I'll take a I'll take a shot at the first draft," and asked interested members to respond to an email thread. Members asked that a proposed pamphlet appear on the March meeting agenda so the group can review the item "before we go to print." The committee discussed sponsoring a table (the festival charge mentioned a $100 sponsorship option) and Cassandra said she would check with city legal and budget staff about rules and funding.

On the Breaking Barriers conference, members agreed to a minimal presence rather than a full presentation this year. Amanda Hamer and other volunteers plan to share pamphlets and materials at existing partner tables; Amanda suggested a short outreach slogan for encouraging city staff participation, "plus 1 for all."

The Walk and Roll event was tentatively slated for early May pending coordination with Commute Options and other partners. Committee members discussed potential routes and locations — Hawthorne Station and the Central Bend District were raised as possibilities — and described priorities for the event such as sidewalk connectivity, reporting infrastructure issues via Bend’s reporting tools, and making outcomes visible to city staff. The committee asked staff to follow up with transportation partners and return route concepts and dates at the March meeting.

Subcommittee and timeline A small group of committee members volunteered to work on the Sprout Film pamphlet and tabling logistics; members requested a draft pamphlet be available at the March meeting for review. Cassandra also suggested a small, informal photo shoot of committee members to provide imagery for the pamphlet and city accessibility pages.
