Lancaster ISD expands CTE and STEAM pathways; students win regional competitions

Lancaster ISD presented updates to the board on CTE (career and technical education) and STEAM programming on Feb. 25, noting new programs, industry partnerships and recent competition results.
District staff said the district received 54 students accepted into new P‑TECH pathways that will begin in the fall, with initial degree pathways in patient care technician and early childhood education (pre-K through sixth). Presenters said the district is phasing out an electrical pathway while refocusing engineering instruction around electrical engineering and adding music engineering in partnership with the fine arts department.
Staff listed district CTE experiences this year, including culinary competitions (three teams advanced to state), regional SkillsUSA placements (first and second places in natural-hair weaving, first places in barbering, 3‑D nail art and welding, and first and second in early-childhood education), industry showcases such as the Aurora self‑driving truck visit, and a manufacturing simulation event.
The presenters said CTE dual-credit opportunities have resumed, with students earning college credit in business and culinary courses, and that the district received a spotlight award for robotics and automation along with a $500 industry donation.
Trustees and district leaders credited partnerships with local businesses, higher-education partners and nonprofits and highlighted STEAM events such as the district’s STEM Fest outings and the culinary food truck kickoff.

Board members thanked staff and business partners and asked staff to continue developing vertical alignment across elementary, middle and high school CTE programming; no formal action other than later CTE-offerings approval was required beyond the update.
