Board members approved a one-year advisory committee that, according to the staff summary, will run from April 2025 to April 30 (end year not specified in the packet). The committee will include communications and public engagement, data and analysis staff, community partners, university partners and other community members; it will report back to the board at the six-month and 12-month marks.
In discussion, Governing Board Member Tamilia Gosa Chapa urged caution that any outreach be paired with continued focus on improving outcomes for students currently enrolled. Board Member Bill Adams called the effort “a chicken and egg situation,” arguing that increasing enrollment can generate revenue that supports additional programs. Vice President Lindsey Peterson and other members spoke in favor, saying district programs and high-quality certified teachers are key selling points.
District staff noted the committee is advisory and must follow open meeting laws: agendas will be posted, meetings will be open to the public, and minutes will be taken. The board approved the committee by voice vote; the motion carried and the committee formation was authorized.
