Haddonfield schools will track Chromebook screen time as staff evaluate classroom and homework use

District administrators told the board they have begun a multi-week effort to measure and review student screen time on district-issued Chromebooks and to examine instructional practices that determine how devices are used.
Staff said they can use GoGuardian reports to measure student device time by day and by class. Because the current system cannot report reliably across after-school hours, administrators said they will supplement GoGuardian data with usage logs from specific instructional programs (for example, Lexia, iReady and IXL) and, if needed, upgrade to a higher GoGuardian tier to allow additional monitoring features. Several board members and administrators said teachers have requested GoGuardian Teacher, which would let teachers restrict access to a small set of sites during class and view student activity in real time.
Administrators proposed a phased, evidence-based approach: sample weeks of data across grades, analyze usage patterns, and then pilot policy or instructional changes where a program's recommended "not to exceed" minutes are being exceeded. They suggested involving AP statistics students as a hands-on project to analyze anonymized district data.
